Description
A delicious crispy beef stir-fry with a blend of flavors, perfect for dinner.
Ingredients

- 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch (for beef marinade)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp cornstarch (for crispy batter)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp white pepper (optional)
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 4–6 cups vegetable, canola, or peanut oil (for deep frying)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for sauce)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 inches fresh ginger, minced
- 2–3 red chillies, deseeded, minced (adjust to taste)
- 1 large red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup light soy sauce (for sauce)
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar (for sauce)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable stock
- 2 tbsp tomato ketchup (optional)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch, mixed with 2 tbsp cold water (for sauce slurry)
- Fresh spring onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Extra fresh red chilli slices (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the beef, light soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and white pepper.
- Heat the oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Dredge the marinated beef in the flour mixture and fry until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a separate pan, heat vegetable oil. Sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant.
- Add in red chillies, bell pepper, and onion. Stir-fry until just tender.
- In a bowl, mix the light soy sauce, rice vinegar, granulated sugar, and stock. Pour into the vegetable mixture.
- Mix the cornstarch slurry into the sauce until thickened.
- Add the crispy beef back to the pan and toss to coat.
- Garnish with spring onions, sesame seeds, and extra chilli slices.
- Serve hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
- Adjust the number of chillies according to your heat preference.
- For extra crunch, fry the beef in batches.
- Can substitute beef with chicken or tofu for a different variation.
