Description
A delicious and healthy alternative to traditional burgers using roasted cabbage as the bun.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large green cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Cabbage: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and slice it into thick rounds, about ¾ to 1 inch thick. Try to keep the core intact so the slices hold together. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil and place them on a lined baking sheet. When roasted, the cabbage softens beautifully while the edges turn slightly golden and sweet.
- Season and Shape the Beef: In a bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing so the burgers stay tender. Form the mixture into patties roughly the same size as your cabbage slices. Press a slight indentation in the center to help them cook evenly.
- Assemble the Oven Baked Cabbage Burgers: Place each beef patty on top of a cabbage slice. The cabbage acts like a natural bun, sturdy enough to hold everything together. Slide the tray into the oven and bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until the beef is fully cooked and the cabbage is tender.
- Add the Cheese: In the final 5 minutes of baking, sprinkle cheddar and mozzarella over each burger. Return to the oven until the cheese melts and becomes bubbly and lightly golden.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving. The combination of juicy beef, melted cheese, and tender roasted cabbage makes these Oven Baked Cabbage Burgers irresistibly satisfying.
Notes
- The cabbage rounds can also be cooked on the grill for a smoky flavor.
- Feel free to add your favorite seasonings to the beef mixture to customize the flavor.
- These burgers are great with a variety of toppings such as avocado or hot sauce.
